Ranmore's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

We are excited to bring to market this exceptional Bentley T2. Last sold by us only in 2024, where the current owner carried out some significant, yet sympathetic upgrades to the car to enhance its drivability and usability, ensuring its safety and reliability, without sacrificing the originality of the car. Updates include the addition of a Harvey Bailey Handling Kit which includes uprated springs and anti-roll bars, he furthered this with the addition of Bilstein dampers and a heavier feel steering rack, these upgrades work wonderfully together and make this car the best driving T2 we have had the pleasure to drive. Further upgrades include a Moto-Lita wooden rimmed steering wheel which feels just right in the hand, LED headlights which significantly improve night time visibility and a modern Blaupunkt radio which sits neatly in the cabin under the main centre console whilst still retaining the original radio in the usual position for originality. All of these upgrades improve the experience and useability of the car without anything looking out of place, all very tastefully done.

The owner had planned to export the car to his home in Thailand, however thanks to some recent changes in legislation, this is now an uneconomical exercise leaving the owner disappointedly having to abort that plan and put the car up for sale instead. A frustrating decision for them as I'm sure you'll sympathise.

The Model

The Bentley T2, produced from 1977 to 1980, represented the final and most refined evolution of Bentley’s classic T-Series saloon. Closely related to the more common Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II, it combined the marque’s hallmark craftsmanship with discreet luxury and improved driving dynamics. Powered by the smooth and powerful 6.75-litre Bentley V8 engine, the T2 featured upgraded suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and a more modern interior with enhanced air conditioning and sound insulation. Externally understated yet unmistakably elegant, the T2 remains a distinguished symbol of late-1970s Bentley refinement.

This Cars History

Prior to our current owner, this car was under the same owner from 1987 to 2021, before being owned for a brief period by the owners son, almost 40 years within the same family.

The file contains a wealth of invoices, unfortunately up until 1999 when it came to be maintained through Ranmore (or Royce Engineering as it was known then) we are limited to just a handful of invoices. However since then records are far better with over 30 visits to our workshop documented through invoices on file. A large volume of MOT's are present for almost every year since 1987.

Recent expenditure is arguably always the most relevant when buying a classic car, over the past five years this car has had just over £30,000 spent on it. This does include the aformentioned upgrades but also a healthy dose of servicing and sensible maintenance.

As a big fan of "other items" in history files, I was very intrigued to find a letter from a Mr J Cowell, the After-Sales UK Operations Manager at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, dated 14th February 1989 warning the owner about the effects of leaded petrol and urging the user to consider changing over to unleaded petrol as a contribution to the overall environment. It goes on to state that this car runs perfectly fine on unleaded fuel, contrary to popular belief by some at the time who felt it would adversely affect performance. I'm sure the strangest Valentine's letter the owner had received, but a wonderful addition to the file nonetheless!

Final Overview

What we have here is a very well sorted Bentley T2. Mechanically in fine fettle and with a host of discreet enhancements, this T2 is simply one of the best we've driven. Cosmetically, as you will see from the photos and below video, she is in very good condition, some areas could do with slight improvement if so desired, however she shines very brightly as she stands today.

It would be an absolute delight to show you around this car so please do get in contact to find out more.

As with all classic cars, it is impossible to warranty the mileage so please ensure you buy always based on condition.
