'Andy Prill' Twin Spark 140 BHP Engine

Porsche
The Porsche 912 Targa went into production during 1967 albeit with a soft plastic rear window, version 2 has the larger rear glass and came a year later and really only to quell safety concerns mainly in the US - in fact this car is from 1969 and special in that it was the only year of the long-wheelbase model, and a glass rear window at this stage was compulsory.

Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

Chassis # 29010521 was dispatched from the factory in March 69 for California where it remained until it was brought into the UK in 2014 when the current owner purchased it. Specifically focused on a Targa for European touring as genuinely more suitable than a Cabriolet, this example certainly ticked many boxes as very original and rot free giving him a solid basis upon which to incorporate a number subtle & personal upgrades.

Prior to any road miles there was desire to enhance the performance of the 912, so given the owner's experience of owning & racing old 911's, Andy Prill was approached to enlarge the 356 engine to a more free revving 2.0 litre twin spark setup and this was subsequently carried out in December 2015. The resulting work including the Dansk sport exhaust gives circa 150 bhp and completely transforms the car's performance without adding masses of extra weight, actually saving something approaching 60 kgs over a 6 cylinder engine, so most probably easily out performing a 2.4T ! The Prill invoice on file clearly demonstrates this was both a beautifully engineered conversion and indeed expensive one too.

Comfort was paramount for longer journeys, so a pair of Rennsport sport seats were added - the interior was treated to a new carpet set otherwise all was in fine fettle. Being a US car pleasingly air conditioning was already inplace, albeit it was beyond economical repair, so a whole new period system by RetroAir system was installed and works perfectly. The Targa roof covering was pasted it best, so Southbound motor trimmers undertook a complete renovation to include outer cover, rubbers, catches and bar seals plus some remedial work on the 1/4 lights too. Finally, due to the increase in performance plus a personal preference for a larger tyre/wheel, it was deemed sensible to upgrade the 14' Fuchs to 15' style rims, these were shod with period correct 4 new Pirelli Cinturato tyres.

There are file invoices relating to all of this work and the huge costs involved plus yearly servicing. A enormous amount of time and effort has gone into adapting and enhancing this Porsche and there's no doubt it's now an impressive car which drives and handles superbly. Pleasingly the owner has kept a mileage log of his travels across Europe, giving you comfort that this Porsche covers ground with consummate ease.It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have.

My apologies - please note in my haste to take photographs I had forgotten to remove the continental head lamp deflectors!
