I don't know about you but certainly my ears perk whenever I hear the clatter of an early 911 air-cooled engine, it's loud and very distinctive.

Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

Nothing changes once behind the wheel, sensations for the driver are chiefly the flood of noise, engine noise. Press on and the air-cooled engine's seductive rasp turns into a wail especially one's pushing on up to the 7200rpm redline...for me and many others its simply intoxicating.

Thus its so nice to have a brace of 911 2.2S's here with me in Guildford....infact another excellent early 1971 D Series car, this time in RHD format and originally Channel Islands delivered during 1971 but quickly brought over and re-registered here on the mainland in June 1972.

Importantly its an all original matching numbers (chassis, engine, gearbox) car still presented in its vivid factory tangerine orange (2323)...at some point the original leatherette black/corduroy interior strayed as it evidently now features a pair of perfectly re-upholstered black recaros. Power windows (651) Sliding roof (650) outside right door mirror (261) are all correct production features along with its aluminum engine cover pleasingly remains intact here.

There is early history/invoices going back to 1977 when the then reported mileage was 41,800, so evidently much active use initially. Mot check reports & invoices clearly show mileage slowly creeping up to 50,716 by 1983 and onward to just 60,635 in 1995 when the car underwent in 1995 a restoration, comprising of a full bare metal re-spray, a complete engine rebuild including new pistons, liners and camshaft together with extensive interior trim work.

Purchased by its last keeper some 7 years ago, the mileage had hardly increased due to it being in long term storage we are informed. It was immediatley sent to Autofarm for servicing and remedial works and has been exclusively looked after by them ever since - their invoices on file amount to over £13,000. Recently prepared for sale further expenditure amounts to over £10,000.

Being just one of 44 RHD cars imported in 1971 it is certainly a rare commodity.

It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Porsche can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me on 07788 865700.
