Porsche 911 2.2 S

1971

Porsche
It is said that rarity is the union of beauty and purity; certainly this wonderful 911 2.2S has both these attributes in spades. Being just one of 44 RHD cars imported in 1971 it is certainly a rare commodity, especially so, when # 9111300760 remains faithful to its original factory specification.

Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

The factory fitted optional equipment of a sunroof, power windows and rear wiper, elevate this car further, with elements such as the lovely H1 headlights, correct 'S' oil cooler and MFI pump, original deep 6 Fuchs and Koni's, plus an original Becker radio adding much to its individual appeal and rarity. Presented as built in silver metallic paintwork (8080) which contrasts perfectly with the correctly clad corduroy Recaro seats.

Registered on 31st March 1971 and supplied via Porsche GB on a London registration plate 'DLM 911J', which pleasingly it now retains once again. Latterly sold via "Mr 911" himself, Nick Faure, in 1978 to David O'Heery who emigrated with the 911 to Brisbane, Australia in 1979 - on file are shipping documents and its subsequent Ministry of Transport inspection in Queensland, plus importantly, on file a UK MOT issued on 10th October 1978 showing a mileage of 9,179. Evidently on arrival down under the odometer was changed to KM's which currently reads 65,069 KM (165,069 KM) and which corresponds with both written reports and invoices on file.

Evidently given the extensive history that accompanies the car, clearly it has been properly and well care for, with the last Australian owner undertaking both mechanical work and body renovations via respected Porsche specialists, all of which is detailed in the history.

Re-imported into the UK during 2014 and sold via DK Engineering to its current Porsche devotee who asked Andy Prill to carry out a pre-sale inspection. A small number points were observed by AP, all of which has been rectified by respected Porsche Specialist JAZZ.

A chance not to be missed, I managed a few very memorable miles behind the wheel - with 180 bhp on tap and a short-stroke free-revving engine, plus an 'open road' dog-leg transmission, its a delight to drive, something Mr Prill concurred with, as his written opinion was that this 911, "drives well and the engine is tight and performs as a 2.2S should".

This Porsche has matching numbers, plus its VIN plate is original and authentic. Rarely available and one of the most desirable early 911 models, this Porsche has been beautifully preserved.

It is 50 years since Porsche launched the first 911s in 1967. The new owner will be well-placed to take part in this year's classic motoring events, including Porsche Club of Great Britain's "Classics at the Castle", where the 50th Anniversary of the 911s is being celebrated with a showcase line-up of 50 examples in chronological order so there may be a chance to include DLM 911J in the line-up if you're quick.

It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Porsche can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me directly 07788 865700.
