Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

Registered on 4th November the same year but quickly sold on to its second keeper the following March. We can conclude from the original Kenyan buff log book that between this date and February 1969 it changed hands on a further 5 occasions, ending with a Mr. H.M.M MacRae in 1971 in Narobi. We can vouch from an original registration plate still with the car that it was exported to Kigeki in Uganda sometime afterwards but not unsurprisingly the trail ended until the car reappears in Germany in 1991.

Beautifully present in its original Meissen Blue with brown interior, it pleasingly remains as built with all of the factory options of US bumpers, head rest (Passenger seat only - supplied but not fitted)), speedo in MPH and clock in place, plus, crucially it's fully matching too.

Porsche build cycles were slightly irregular during this period....this car's chassis number indicates it's a 1958 model year but it was clearly built in 1957; commonly referred to as T1 1/2 or less frequently a Series 100 car. Other pointers to this period are that its door handles are the early type but with later buttons, its door catch is high mounted (same as T1) but the car has tear-drop lights. We can deduce from the engine number (66728/616/1) that it is a standard/normal engine....all in all, a very interesting example

Restored in Germany during the 1990's, there is photographic evidence on file of the restoration showing the car in bare metal state with zero corrosion apparent. Since its return to the UK in 2003 this 356 has been through the hands of two further owners, both of whom have endeavoured to spend money wisely but its the last owner who has undertaken the vital recommissioning and moreover used Paul Smith's (PR Services Ltd) wise counsel and expertise to improve the Porsche, making it not only look correct, but drive as a 356 should do.

A genuine opportunity to own one of the most interesting cars that has been through my doors, not forgetting how difficult and incredibly rare it is to find a RHD matching numbers 356 A Coupe.

It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Porsche can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me on 07788 865700.
