Some thoughts on this model
The interior featured a slightly redesigned dashboard, including a long awaited proper functioning heater plus a much improved and practical outside fuel filler, but most significantly of all, Porsche installed their most powerful engine yet, a 95bhp unit, which together with disc brakes made this a much more enjoyable machine to drive.
This beautiful example was originally supplied as a LHD European specification 356 SC, infact delivered to the Dutch dealer, Pon's Automobielhandel B.V., from the factory during March 1964. Pleasingly it remains today completely as built and importantly matching too and certainly looks resplendent in its ruby red paint work - its wonderfully patinated and near perfect interior is simply amazing given it's nearly 56 years year old.
The first owner was a Mr Cohen took delivery in September the same year....I understand he was over with the US Military and eventually returned with the car to California. It was sold on to a friend who certainly looked after it well having entered and won a number of local & national Concours events. This discerning chap relinquished it to a good English pal, a well known British music executive here who brought it back to the UK in late 1990. Upon arriving here in Blighty, it was entrusted to Porsche St John's Wood, (actually Mitre Works who were their approved bodyshop) for a total respray. Interestingly photos on file show the car during this repainting process and afterwards in the Porsche showroom next to a 917!
Its current fourth keeper, a gentleman well known to me, purchased it some 27 years ago (1993) and has again kept up the tradition of sensible and professional upkeep ever since. Sadly with the onset of older age the car has seldom been used but very happily it's been correctly stored thus eliminating any deterioration...the recent services substantiates this, insomuch, just a complete full service and some attention to the brakes being the only items necessary prior to it passing its first mot in some years.
I've covered some miles behind the wheel and the extra urgency from the 95 bhp makes all the difference and without doubt it's a delight to drive. A really super usable Porsche that copes admirably well with modern day traffic and certainly drives as good as it looks plus is sensibly priced.
It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Porsche can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me on 07788 865700.
