Some thoughts on this model
These are exceptionally rare cars nowadays...checking 'how many left', it shows sadly just 5 GTI's on the road, and much like the Opel GT I have, I would imagine this would be the best.
My chum who owns it is a highly regarded Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist, so knows a thing or two about motor cars, who has for years had an itch for one of these, the trouble being it's almost impossible to locate a good solid car. In 2018 his efforts were rewarded when he came across this car, albeit on the other side of the world, in New Zealand. Undaunted and after many photos and walk around videos, hands were 'virtually' shaken and the 'Pug' was UK bound.
Supplied new in 1988 by LA Marque European, Auckland, NZ, their market pleasingly enjoyed a better standard specification than here, so electric windows, electric sunroof, heated seats, air-condition and finally a LSD were all standard on the GTI and best of all this one was a 5 speed manual.
Eagerly waiting its arrival, he wasn't disappointed when it reversed off the trailer, and a little later once underneath he was further amazed at its overall condition...there was simply no cosmetic or structural corrosion. The paint work was excellent whilst the blue velour interior was virtually unmarked with no visible signs of wear, plus everything worked as it should.
It was clearly evident this 505 had been cherished, this being reinforced by the previous owner's travel log, which described details of works undertaken together with the date & mileage.
It was felt prudent nevertheless to give it a full service. The alloys were refurbished and new centre caps added as originals had 'gone off', plus a new tyres fitted....not any old type, but 4 correct new Michelin TRX, which are expensive and often difficult to source. A new Alpine head unit and some high end speakers replaced the an older unit and lastly given its a GTI, a period 'Momo' steering was fitted which is lovely to use.
As you would expect there is an original handbook and papers plus a Peugeot build certificate confirming its manufactured date of 24th Sept 1987.
These were both hugely comfortable and practical cars, that are engaging to drive courtesy of its 5 speed manual gearbox and a clutch that's as light as my wife's pavlova, and a very lively 2.2 injected 125 bhp engine. The exceptionally comfortable interior with a fully adjustable drivers seat also has unusually the benefit of modern accessories of heated seats, air condition and sunroof, that will give you a very viable alternative to a car costing 3 times as much today.
Correctly registered here by the DVLA and showing just one keeper!...there is simply nothing it needs other than annoyingly the Hirsch electric aerial has literally just starting misbehaving, but I'm sure this is fixable.
It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This exceptional Peugeot can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - do please call me directly on 07788 865700.
