Some thoughts on this model
We are proud to offer for sale this awesome Morgan Plus 4 Super Sports. Number 18 of only 60 made, this rare special edition is a treat for the senses and hugely enjoyable to drive.
The Model
1962 was a very special year for Morgan, the Plus 4 was now 12 years into its life and up to this point Morgan's had not been widely recognised as racing machines, this all changed in 1962. The late great Christopher Lawrence had built himself an enviable reputation racing his Morgan Plus 4 'TOK258' around the UK, in 1962 he set his sights on Europe and entered a Morgan Plus 4 in the 1962 Le Mans. He had modified his car in many ways, including adding larger Weber carbs to the Triumph engine requiring the addition of a scoop fitted to the side of the bonnet to accommodate them, power lept from 92 to 120 bhp, no mean feat in the day.

Lawrence and his team raced to great success in 1962, securing a 2.0-liter class win and thirteenth place overall at Le Mans. A monumentus result and once scorched into Morgan's significant history books. It was seen as a real David vs Goliath moment with the Morgan having beaten larger, better-funded rivals.
The result created a lot of noise around Morgan and soon people were banging on the door wanting that car. Morgan then created the Morgan Plus 4 SuperSports as a special edition based on the Le Mans winning car, only 103 were made up to 1968.
Fast forward to 2012, Morgan decided to commemorate 60-years of their Le Mans win by producing 60 more Morgan Plus 4 Super Sports. This track focused edition included many items as a nod to the 1962 original. This included:
On top of the visual cues harking back to its racing career, this car was also a properly sorted track-day toy, with lots of features to ensure it drives as good as it looks.
This Car
This particular car has been finished in RAF Blue and looks fantastic with its yellow detail around the nose and front end. In the photos you will see it is fitted with a suede steering wheel, but it is also supplied with its original Banjo steering wheel should you prefer originality.
The car drives fantastically, it holds the road exceptionally well with bucket loads of feedback being delivered through the wheel. The throttle bodies not only improve power delivery and throttle response, but also deliver an intoxicating induction roar to ensure a real sense of theatre with every drive, its 200bhp helps with that too! The throttle bodies are currently housed in a carbon airbox to reduce the sound for trackdays, however this can be removed to unleash even more volume for the road.
The history file contains plenty of invoices for servicing throughout its life, much of it from Morgan main dealers, it's been thoroughly pampered which is reflected in its condition today.
