Some thoughts on this model
A staple of Morgan Motor Company history, the three-wheeled automobile has long been one of the marque’s most iconic creations. Exposed to the elements to ensure every sensation is amplified for the driver, few vehicles deliver an experience quite like a Morgan 3 Wheeler. Raw, visceral and full of character, it leaves an impression few others can emulate. This is an especially special example of one of the marque’s most exciting cars.
This Car
Originally supplied in 2021, this 3 Wheeler was purchased as a gift for its unsuspecting first owner. Caught by surprise by the generous gesture, they did not have space to accommodate the car, so it was placed into storage, initially with the supplying dealer before later moving to CARS Worldwide storage, where it remained.
Recently acquired by its current owner, the car was brought directly to us for inspection and servicing. However, a subsequent change in circumstances now leads to its sale.
As a 2021 car, this example was produced during the final year of 3 Wheeler production, making it one of the last examples to leave the factory. It has been exquisitely specified, finished in Morgan Metallic Green, a colour that remains unblemished and glows beautifully in sunlight.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in contrasting Biscuit leather with Racing Green stitching in a diamond quilted pattern. The dashboard features walnut veneer with aluminium inlays, alongside a lockable glove compartment. Protection from the elements is provided by both a beige mohair tonneau cover and a heritage flyscreen, the latter proving surprisingly effective in use.
Having covered just 200 miles from new, the car remains in exceptional condition throughout and drives superbly. It commands positive attention wherever it goes and, thanks to the glorious S&S V-twin engine, most people will hear it arriving long before they see it.
This Model
Morgan has a significant history with the 3-wheeled car, in fact the first ever Morgan in 1909 was a 3-wheeled Morgan, known as the Runabout. H.F.S. Morgan built his first car, the Runabout, for his own use in 1909 but after being very well received he entered production with it at Pickersleigh Road in Malvern, where Morgan’s are still produced today. Production continued up until the second world war with over 1,000 units being delivered.
It wasn’t until 2011 where Morgan brought back the 3 Wheeler to great acclaim. Fitted with an S&S V-Twin engine, fitted on display at the front of the car, with power driven to the rear wheel through the celebrated Mazda MX-5 transmission, performance was fantastic thanks largely to its lightweight, weighing in at around 550kg.
The 3-Wheeler was an instant hit, delivering a sense of occasion and adrenaline fuelled fun that nothing else legal can match. It was lauded on Top Gear with Richard Hammond famously a fan, along with Jeremy Clarkson, culminating in them awarding the car with “Not a car of the year 2011” in true Top Gear style.
After a ten-year run, the 3-Wheeler was retired from the range in 2021 and superseded by the Super-3 in 2022.
Summary
The Morgan 3 Wheeler became celebrated for its pure, unfiltered and utterly visceral driving experience. Raw and uncompromising, it demands as much from its driver as the driver expects from it, yet rewards every journey with a sense of adventure few modern cars can deliver.
Combined with the thunderous soundtrack of its exposed V-twin engine, every drive becomes an occasion, usually accompanied by involuntary laughter and a desire to keep going just that little bit further.
This example represents the very end of that remarkable model and is likely among the lowest mileage and finest condition cars available today. If you are searching for a Morgan 3 Wheeler that presents as close to new as possible, this is quite simply one of the very best examples you will find.
