Some thoughts on this model
Our very pretty +2S 130 4 speed was first delivered by Sports Tune Motor Company of East Lothian in February 1970 to its first keeper Mr PLH Tait who kept the car for 26 years, and very pleasingly there have been just a further 3 keepers since. The original cirrus white body remains but a previous owner decided upon a midnight plum top hat (painted roof) which certainly gives the car an individual look and contrasts perfectly with the white body.
This Lotus was completely stripped and rebuilt in the mid 90s by an hugely enthusiastic and capable owner, employing the knowledge of Lotus experts and of course all the correct parts. The large history file together with a photographic account of the restoration clearly corroborates the work undertaken.
Interestingly Lotus dealers Christopher Neil sold the car back in 1996 and at the time undertook a written summary of works that had been completed in their view to a Concours standard. Needless to say, the list of works they reported on is thoroughly comprehensive and includes but not limited to, a new lotus galvanised chassis, all new suspension and brakes, upgraded electrics, new chrome, bare body gel-coat repaint plus a complete engine rebuild...this document forms a small but important part of the impressively large history file.
The final two subsequent keepers have obviously both lavished a great deal of time and money as this Lotus presents beautifully and perhaps as well as it did back in the mid 90s when freshly restored, particularly the paintwork. Further endorsement is given by the notable Lotus expert/specialist Max Hurst, who has been entrusted with all works and servicing over the last 4 years and rates this Plus 2S exceptionally highly, an accolade he rarely gives and certainly validates this car further.
A great looking car that's a joy to drive with every component working as it should. There's an excellent history file of receipts and the photographic restoration, a roll of tools, the original Lotus jack as well as the Philips Turnolock period radio plus a host of other subtle upgrades, such as remote central locking, solenoid boot release, rear seat belts and to enhance safety, a high level brake light. The wonderful number plate can remain but is available via separate negotiation.
It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Lotus can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me on 07788 865700.
