Some thoughts on this model
This is only the second +2 I've sold and to be honest general expectations and opinions of +2's are somewhat varied; the following list of works will demonstrate this car bucks this normal trend and certainly deserves a little of your time to read on. For ease I'll adapt my normal format of description, to simply listing the works undertaken.
ENGINE:
The engine was fully rebuilt at huge expense by ex BRM engineer, Paul Fisher.
Balanced, lightened and blue printed. Phase 2 tuned, CPL 2 cams with adjustable vernier pulleys. Ported and polished “N” spec cylinder head. Lightweight Cosworth cam-buckets with larger REC valves. Powermax BDA pistons . Vanderwall competition bearings. High capacity oil pump, fully baffled sump, large bore custom exhaust. Electronic ignition. Braided fuel lines. AP racing clutch. Free flow competition air filter fitted but the original factory air boxes come with thecar Dyno tested on rolling road, 154bhp, 145lb/ft torque
DRIVETRAIN:
Rebuilt box by Nichol transmissions, LSD Tony Thompson Diff
Susan Miller CV drive shafts. Tony Thompson EN24 billet diff output shafts and outboard drive shafts
SUSPENSION/BRAKES:
Gas filled front shocks with ajustable platforms
Rear adjustable Konis
Stiffer TT front anti roll bar.
Uprated front calipers, ventilated discs.
Replacement ventilated rear discs come with car, yet to be fitted.
Replacement uprated servo.
BODYWORK:
The Elan had a professional repaint by Lotus specialists circa 15 years ago which still presents well today and probably reflects the simple fact that this +2 has been pampered. Excellent chrome.
Moreover, it looks rather cool and understated in Cirrus white, the colour suits the car really well. Incidentally, Cirrus white was chosen by Lotus in period advertisements for the then new +2S. However, it really is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, as the car looks completely standard.
INTERIOR:
Rather lovely. Beautifully patinated and cared for seats, headlining dashtop and doorcards and carpets. Very rare to find such a lovely unmolested black interior. Walnut dash fitted at the time of the rebuild. Some usual localised discoloration of lacquer but could easily fixed by a specialist but still looks very smart. Motalita wheel fitted but importantly the previous owner retained the rare factory 15” steering wheel that comes with the car. It was fitted with a new wiring loom at the time of the rebuild. Everything in the engjne bay just looks right. None of the usual old Lotus wiring loom hatchet jobs!
In conclusion, a very special +2S, that drives beautifully and begs to be used more, ideally on a track! Not to be confused with most of the average cars out there. Suffice to say, such a rebuild today to this specification would cost an absolute fortune.
Therefore, rather appealing at £22,000.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this remarkable Lotus, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 07788 865700 to arrange a viewing.
