Some thoughts on this model
Often thought to be the least desirable E Type due to the US modifications, infact in reality, can be a considerably nicer car to drive than an earlier versions, especially so, if you are of the larger frame, as the redesigned seats are certainly more accommodating than earlier Series 1 cars.
The current owner purchased this lovely E Type from a close friend after badgering him for many years to relinquish his pride and joy. From the provenance file it certainly was not 'mates rates', as he paid a handsome ₤39,000 for it in 1989, which clearly was fair and commanded by the sheer quality and condition of the car.
To date nothing has changed, let me elaborate: the Jaguar's owner was a proprietor of a substantial coachworks, in fact he built bespoke bodies, so had the necessary know-how and facilities to care for his Jaguar. Rarely used over the intervening 27 years due to emigrating to Australia and sadly, latterly to ill health, the car was correctly laid up and properly stored. Never neglected whilst off the road, the car's coachwork, paintwork, chrome, interior leather and carpets all emerged 3 year ago from its hibernation, completely unscathed and in excellent condition.
Evidently the majority of mechanical components needed recommissioning: this extended to overhauling the water system and radiator, the hydraulics, entirety of brakes and suspension, petrol tank, fuel lines, steering, clutch and ignition. If I now tell you the gentleman is nearly eighty years old, it is simply staggering - it has taken him the best part of 3 years and the workmanship is simply stunning. He had help along the way from a retired (74!) engineer but certainly nothing has been left to chance.
A certificate from Jaguar Heritage Trust accompanies the history file which includes Mot's, invoices and photographs of the recommissioning. Just sailed through a new Mot, the Jaguar comes with original operating and maintenance hand book, original jack and copper hammer - simply a delight to drive and in this condition to own too! Please note the registration number shown is not included in the sale.
This E Type is just one of those cars that just looks and feel right. It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Jaguar can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me directly 07788 865700.
