Austin Healey MK III 3000 BJ8.2

1967

Austin
This particular MK III 3000 BJ8 was built September 1967, thus being the final year of production and therefore the most powerful and luxurious of the models produced. Denoted in the main by its walnut-veneer dash and a 150hp engine, the 'Big Healey' as it was affectionately known, became the most consistently successful Grand Touring rally car of all time and the most popular incarnation of the marque.

Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

With a large production bias towards the US market, its not surprising many cars have been re-imported and converted to RHD - the accompanying Heritage certificate confirms this car was originally built for North American export but retains its important matching numbers and the factory build specification apart from white wall tyres!

During 2006-07 the then owner transformed the car into something very special as it was treated to a complete restoration. All mechanicals were rebuilt, including the engine, suspension, brakes together with cooling, fuel and electrical systems, with various upgrades incorporated along the way. The body was stripped back to bare metal, repaired wherever necessary and repainted in this very attractive two tone combination and finished to a standard equal to, if not better than, that achieved at the factory...pleasingly on file there is both a comprehensive invoice trail and photographic evidence/account of all works.

Following its completion the Healey has been exceptionally well maintained, with a number of further up-grades added, most notable being the fitment of new mohair hood and power steering along with a fine Mota-Lita wooden steering wheel (original in boot!), all of which certainly adds to ones driving pleasure. There's a huge history file together with a BMIHT certificate, a current MoT and its correct UK V5C registration document.

A recent memorable Summer rally to 'Classic Le Mans' where it participated in a few nostalgic laps of the circuit plus a further faultless 1,000 touring miles, highlights the civilised nature of the 'Big Healey' and its excellent touring capabilities.

It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This exceptional Healey can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me directly on 07788 865700.
