Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

This endearing model has proved its metal in various forms of competition time and time again. Examples have raced successfully at Le Mans, run in the Mille Miglia, won the Australian Gramd Prix and the BRDC 500 mile Race at Brooklands from stiff opposition. The first products from Jaguar, Lotus, BMW, Datson and Lola were Austin 7 based specials or Austin 7's built under licence.

This beautifully presented example offered here has been lovingly restored by an Italian VSCC member and car collector for his own use, specifically in pre-war vintage car trials. To this end, the entire rolling chassis has been stripped to the last nut and bolt and then comprehensively rebuilt throughout. Having already lost its original body some years ago the decision was taken to have a bespoke and unique body fitted, expressly designed for road use and off road trial of the type popular since the 1920's.

The tub features a stiff tubular frame traditionally clad in aluminum with supportive bucket seats and a delightful copper petrol tank which is though to have previously seen use on a vintage clinker built motor launch. Attractive and easily detachable full length louvered bonnet sides protect the engine and a one piece bonnet top add to its easily access. The engine pulls well and although only completed earlier this year the car has already performed well at its inaugural trial at Cobham Park organised by the 750 Motor Club.

Regretfully the owner has taken the decision that with no appropriate events in his native Italy he cannot justify the return journeying to the UK to compete each time, thus the car should be sold to someone who can enjoy and the use it more regularly. It would be nice to share the news with him that its next custodian has continued its trials career or is just simply using it for jaunts around the countryside for which it is equally well suited.

This Austin Seven is correctly registered here in the UK and has an up todate UK V5C.
