Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

This is only the second time in 63 years that this charming Pagoda has offered onto the open market.

It is presented in its lovely and original two-tone period Havana brown (408) hard top over light beige (181) coachwork with its original dark brown interior and dark brown soft top. It benefits from automatic transmission and power assisted steering.

The car was bought new in 1966 by Mr Ivor Frost as a gift for his wife from Mercedes-Benz dealers Rose & Young, and later then handed down to their son, who has owned it until the last keeper purchased it some years ago.

It takes just a brief glimpse of this Pagoda to appreciate it's a cut above the rest and that it has been meticulously maintained during its lifetime....there's even a letter from the owner stating that the oil was changed every 1000 miles!

Supporting this claim is a huge history file including original dealer correspondence. In addition the Pagoda was subjected to a new Mercedes replacement engine just 12000 miles ago, again all nicely detailed via Rose & Young invoices/correspondence.

Under their sons stewardship, further works were entrusted to marque specialists Hilton and Moss, where detailed invoices relating to body/chassis work nudge nearly an impressive £20,000.

Not to be outdone, the last owner has been equally tireless in his upkeep and dedication. The car spent a couple of weeks recently up the SL Shop where they focused on the engine & injection system along with new exhaust componentry....again a healthy £12,000 invoice was presented.

If you are considering a Pagoda of any description, then here's a super opportunity to acquire a beautifully looked after and driving 230SL thats had just 3 owners from new.

Taking into consideration its recent works & expenditure, it's completely on the button and sensibly priced compared to many too.
